Mani of the Day: Milani Jewel FX in Hot Pink

So the big excitement of my haul from Walgreens was this beauty, Milani Nail Lacquer Jewel FX in Hot Pink. As requested, here is this stunner in swatches. I put 2 coats of it over Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Black Out which only took one medium coat. I topped it with one coat of Seche Vite. If you notice any tiny glints of glitter, I've been working on a very special project which I'll be showing you soon!

Milani Jewel FX in Hot Pink is a mix of two hex glitters suspended in a nice clear base. So one type of glitters are distinct holos. These are brilliant and although they can be mistaken for silver from a distance, they are magnificent. Because of their larger size, you really see the reflections of rainbows varying from piece to piece. The other shade is what I imagine Milani feels is a hot pink whereas I see it as more of a dark pink bordering fushia in certain angles. These hex glitters are at what I would call a larger size, but that is just my take on it.

Application is like any larger size glitter, some assembly required. You always have to do some wiggling and such. I do love the clear base though, it was just the right consistency!

So did it live up to the hype? This was the most requested when I hauled it, will you be in search of it? I personally love it, especially over black. I think for spring I'll put it over a nice lime or neon blue.

Taupe Eyeshadow Look for the Every Day

When I think of a great work shade, taupe is the first. Its neutral but has lots of variations from shimmers, to mattes, & beyond. So, if you're a taupe lover for all occasions like me, I think you'll like this wearable look. Keep in mind none of these pictures are edited other than cropping & were taken indoors with natural light.

Victoria's Secret Party Perfect Makeup Kit Palette Review

I picked up this palette when it was on sale after Christmas. I wasn't really sure what I was getting honestly, but I have had really good experiences with Victoria's Secret Brand eyeshadows so far. The palette is mostly neutral/smoky eye based which works fine for me. It has just enough shades to give yourself a pop of color with your usual smokey look. Personally, I like that look better, I feel it looks edgier & more fun. This palette has zero matte shades though so if that's all you wear, its not for you! All of these shades are satins/shimmers.

Here are some random swatches. The neutrals are similar but different enough to build depth so I mostly swatched the colors. I figured this would give you a look at which shades you have an option to meld into your natural/smoky eye.

So far, I find these shades very wearable. I can see this being an easy palette to transfer from day to night. The taupes & neutrals would make great day looks, even for a professional. Then we have the gold & silver for a metallic look. Browns for a natural or smoky eye. Colors that can be used on their own or separately. See where I'm going with this?

A few had a little bit of fallout when swatched with my finger, but not in a bad way. The reason I had fallout at all was because they were satin & on the lid they blend beautifully.

The blush & bronzer are alright. Overall I love the subtle shimmer which give it more of a "glow" look. The bronzer is too orange for my skin tone & when blended it made me look near deathly. The blush is a really pretty shade though. I normally don't reach for "pop out" extras like these, but I guess that's not their fault right?

I'm pleased with this palette, especially since I rarely buy Victoria's Secret eyeshadows outside of singles & duos. This means I probably will look into buying some more! The only thing I wasn't crazy about was it was kind of hard to open & super static-y. Random? You bet! But I hate when dust is literally drawn to something I need to keep clean!

Do you ever buy Victoria's Secret brand makeup? Have you had some duds?

Mani of the Day: Sally Hansen Lilac Chantilly + Sally Hansen Glass Slipper

After starring at Lilac Chantilly on its own for quite awhile, I decided I would go more towards winter. It already has this awesome silver undertone so it got me thinking of snow. Granted, we haven't had any decent snow here, but still I dream of snow. So immediately I thought of Sally Hansen Glass Slipper! I bought this quite awhile ago and used it maybe once before I got sidetracked. I can't believe this is its debut on the blog as its such a popular shade, but here it is!

Glass Slipper is from the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength line which has been redesigned. I do love the new bottle, but I'll get a better shot of that with a shade that's easier to capture. Glass Sipper reminds me of a flakie without the color change. Flecks of white, icy flakes of varying sizes. Its way hard to photograph, but maybe over a darker shade it'll be easier? I'll have to do some testing.

This is 2 coats of gorgeous. I am totally loving this effect which mimics some high-end shades.
Here's a macro shot so you can see it with this manicure and a bottle shot so you can see the size and such of the flakes.

Do you own Glass Slipper?  How do you like it? What kind of shades do you think this would be best over?

Mani of the Day: Sally Hansen in Lilac Chantilly

So..this is one of those good news bad news nail polishes. I got requests to swatch this (which I'm always more than happy to do!) except then I lost it in my house. As lame as this sounds...seriously its entirely possible & happens rather frequently. So, then I found it! Yay! Now onto the good news bad news of the actual polish.

Lilac Chantilly is a gorgeous metallic in the bottle. A blue toned lavender...which means right up my alley. Anything purple...I want. This has a spectacular mix of silver-y sheen. So what's the issue? I don't know if you can tell, but its crazy drying! This is 3 coats. I can see every ridge in my nail which isn't what I'm wanting when I apply polish. I've had some issues with Sally Hansen metallics in the past & it seems to be a repetitive issue. The dryness.

So although that's clearly the bad, here's the good. I think I can salvage this. This is going to have to be a base color or go over 2 coats of seche vite for a smooth application, but I will save it. Its a color I like enough to take the time to make it work, which is rare honestly.

Have you tried this shade? Anyone else have these similar issues with some metallics?

If you love this shade as much as I do don't fret, I have a plan for tomorrows manicure :)

My Articles on Mineral Makeup!

Image taken by me for Mom Blog Society.
So in preparation for my summer off from work, I've been doing some writing outside of my blog. I'm a preschool assistant, for those that don't know! Anyway, I wrote some articles for an up and coming blog called Mom Blog Society. I pitched & wrote two articles I know you guys would be interested in!

I started out by looking at my collection & thinking "Wow, when did I start buying mineral makeup?" It happened so gradually, I hadn't even noticed! I mean I've always tried my best to buy cruelty free, but I don't think I even made a concious decision to start buying "natural" or "organic" items.

What is mineral makeup even? Ah, then we had an article.

Check out my two articles -- Mineral Makeup: What Makes it Different? & Mineral Makeup: How to Choose & Apply a Powder Foundation.

I hope you guys find it interesting, I sure did!

I also have a review coming up on some mineral items, pretty excited! This got me thinking, have you noticed some of your makeup items transitioning with you actually trying? What are some of your favorite mineral products? I'd love to know!

Black Opal Black & Silver Winged Liner + Revlon Colorstay Lipstick in Soft Rose

If you saw my review of the Black Opal Eyeliners yesterday, then you read about how my camera died before I could post my eye look. So...here it is!

This look is dramatic but simple. Easy color palette & will go with pretty much every outfit with only black & silver. Long wearing, easy to apply, & quite sexy if I do say so myself. Thick black lashes complete the smoky look & I loved the pop of a young, bright lip. I'm not wearing any false lashes here, but I think they'd be stunning!
How to:
1. Start off with a clean eye then apply eyeliner to both inner lids. I love my Phycisian's Formula gel liner, smooth & black.
2. Apply Black Opal Liquid Eyeliner in Black to both top & bottom. Keep your lower line very thin & close to the lashline. The upper line should be a little thicker but fill in all the lash gaps. If its not completely straight don't worry, you'll be applying the silver next.
3. Apply the silver to the top & bottom slightly overlapping the black so you have a smooth, clean line. If you like the look, wing it out lightly. I like going from the bottom lash line up.
4. Apply your mascara, I chose L'Oreal Carbon Black.

I am so in love with the Revlon Colorstay lip products, they've blown me away product after product. This is Revlon Colorstay Lipstick in Soft Rose. I dotted this on with my finger for a lighter effect over my EOS lip balm in Lemon Drop.

Black Opal Liquid Eyeliners in Silver & Black

I'm the first to admit, I am not a liquid liner aficionado. As much as I love liquid liners I rarely reach for one these days. I am so in love with my Physician's Formula Gel Liners & when they aren't on my eyes then its usually a pencil. I also love the newish eyeliner craze of the liquid in a pen form, what a gorgeous line right? However, when I do turn to liquid liners, I look for 2 things: color & opacity.

Black Opal was kind enough to let me try their liquid liners in both Black & Silver. Both are gorgeous & opaque! I love subtle glitter liners, but my colors have to POP & my blacks, well I like them beyond black! Black Opal has two winners here.
The black? Blackest in one stroke! The silver? A gorgeous gunmetal that is unlike anything else in my collection.

Overall, these eyeliners are long lasting, have great color payoff, & they're pretty easy to maneuver. One of my favorite things is that they don't have a crazy long dry time. A lot of long wearing liquid eyeliners are watery & these are the perfect consistency. You can check these liners out on Black Opal's website as these are an online exclusive! Bonus? These are LESS THEN $5!

I'm super bummed! I have a gorgeous eye look today (the first in awhile!) but my camera is recharging. Expect to see it tomorrow! I haven't had the chance to do many makeup look lately because I've been sick. Visibly. No joke, one side of my face was so swollen I couldn't see my jaw! Anyway, I'm better now so get ready!
